The Art of Origami in Tunisia with Katsukawa Higashi
Did you know that a simple square sheet of paper can be transformed into a delicate flower or a fascinating animal? This intricate craft, known as Origami – the traditional Japanese art of paper folding – has its roots in the time of the samurai, centuries ago. Today, it continues to captivate people and is even included in school programs to stimulate logic and creativity in children.
On Wednesday, September 4, the Japanese Embassy, in collaboration with Espace Zmorda in La Soukra, organized a special event featuring master Origami artist Katsukawa Higashi.
Mr. Katsukawa, a renowned author and expert, shared his passion for Origami with an enthusiastic audience.
The event, which was also attended by his Excellence the Ambassador Mr. Takeshi Osuga, along with members of the AATUJA, began with an engaging presentation of the artist’s works. He also highlighted his latest book, published in March 2023, which provides detailed instructions for creating a variety of folded creations, from animals to vehicles.
Participants then had the opportunity to witness a live demonstration of this captivating art, followed by a hands-on folding workshop under the expert guidance of Mr. Katsukawa. The master carefully guided participants step by step, allowing them to discover the precision and patience required to master this ancient art.
The workshop garnered significant interest from participants, who expressed overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many of them are now eager to attend future workshops to deepen their knowledge of Origami and learn more about this fascinating discipline. This event marked an important step in strengthening cultural ties between Tunisia and Japan, offering a rewarding experience to all who took part.
