AATUJA at the Osaka World Expo: “TAIKO meets Tabbel”

On 13 August 2025, AATUJA represented Tunisia at the Tunisian Pavilion of the Osaka World Expo with an original musical creation and a 17-strong Kendo delegation.

The 13th of August 2025 — Tunisia Day at the Osaka World Expo — will remain one of the brightest pages in our association’s history.

AATUJA represented Tunisia at the Tunisian Pavilion with two landmark performances. The first, “TAIKO meets Tabbel,” was a striking new creation blending the percussion of Djerba and Kerkennah with the drums of Okinawa: a dialogue of rhythms between two islands, two traditions, two peoples. The second was a performance by a 17-member Kendo delegation, led by President Salah Hannachi.

Beforehand, a Taiko training camp had been held from 7 to 14 July to prepare the delegation. The Onsen Day, organised with the support of Dr Kojou to showcase Tunisia’s thermal-tourism potential, drew significant Japanese media coverage.

Despite its modest size, the Tunisian Pavilion earned unanimous praise and a letter of congratulations from the Expo 2025 organisers — proof that the quality of a delegation is measured not by its means, but by the commitment of those who carry it.
