On 10 May 2016, Salah Hannachi — former Ambassador of Tunisia to Japan and founder of AATUJA — received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, Japan's second-highest distinction.

On 10 May 2016, H.E. Salah Hannachi was decorated with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star — Japan’s second-highest distinction. The decoration ceremony was held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

The Embassy of Japan in Tunisia welcomed the honour, and Ambassador Susumu Hasegawa paid tribute to the former Tunisian diplomat for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Salah Hannachi served as Ambassador of Tunisia to Japan from 1997 to 2007 and as Dean of the diplomatic corps of the Arab, African and Islamic countries. In 2008 he was appointed the first CEO of the Borj Cedria Technopark, largely financed by Japan. He has chaired the Tunisia–Japan Friendship Association since 2011.
